Swimming this is my biggest challenge getting ready for Team GB Biathle World Championships
In May 2016 I went to Swimfit unable to put my head in the water. Instructors Claire and Janet who run swimfit have taken me from a almost non swimmer who can now swim continuous lengths freestyle.
Now the mental challenges are beginning to come to play. The belief I can take it further and further.
Three times a week I am in the pool training with Swimfit instructors at Bracknell Leisure centre to get me ready for the World Championships. Swimfit is a public session where you have swim activators who write sessions and coach you through them, along with stroke correction and plenty of encouragement!
Claire and Janet have been my coaches in swimming. They gently push me through mental barriers once I have learnt technique. They are always patient and put up with my moaning complaining "I cant do it its not possible" and getting me to believe it IS possible.
Swimming now has become more of a mental challenge to me rather then physical. Some sessions are good and others are not. Its that the insular feeling you get when swimming, face down, fully submerged in a watery world, completely isolated from all that is going on around you.
I really struggle with that and the constant noise of bubbles. On a good day I am cocooned in a comfy bubble. It just depends. Its a challenge and I am enjoying it most days when the pool isn't too cold...I constantly moan about that!
I want to get up to 200m freestyle by xmas and further into the new year....my swimming journey shall continue into 2017, onwards and upwards.
