2017 Brighton Marathon training run completed in a 21 degree heatwave
Brighton Marathon training run completed in a 21 degree heatwave !! Great climate training for "City to Summit" in July 2017 as the weather was predicted to rise into the 20's.
A very gruelling race for a lot of runners. I was running with Elite Conditioning runners who also motivated me around the never ending hot route.
Water stations ran out of cups to give water to runners. Some water stations actually ran out of water. Shambles really.
Thankfully I carried a very small water bottle as backup between water stations. Today I actually used this to keep hydrated. Brighton was not as busy as London VLM but defiantly less organised. Maybe I had been spoilt by VLM?
Lack of toilets at the start, staggered start not mentioned to runners, bus queues in the Park and ride almost 800 m long and that was just getting to the start line.
During the race I only had one High5 hydration drink on the whole 26 mile course so not sure where the rest went. Gels were still available. Water was really the only issue. Thank fully "Jo Public" put on their hose pipes for runners to run through to cool down.
BUT apart from this I loved running with the Elite Conditioning runners today and it was this that made all the struggles Brighton Marathon organisers threw at us disappear. It was lovely to cross the line with them at the finish.
They were all truly amazing and also helped me complete another training run working towards City to Summit in July.
Brighton as a PB course?.... I think it is nice and not too hilly and definitely less crowded than VLM to aim for a marathon PB.
